Longview natives Matthew McConaughey and Brandon Maxwell are among the honorees of this year’s Texas Medal of the Arts Awards. The full list is announced January 10. The awards take place in Austin February 26-27.
Set to perform on the Greenville Municipal Auditorium (GMA) stage November 11 is “My Funny Valentine” celebrating romantic stage and screen songs. Ireland’s foremost trumpeter Niall O’Sullivan and international award-winning vocalist Shona Henneberry, along with piano accompaniment, perform showbiz favorites like “Moon River,” “Stardust,” and “My Funny Valentine.”
Each year one of the participating artists in the Edom Art Festival provides artwork for the festival’s poster (see on opposite page) and T-shirts. For 2018 the honor goes to Gary Bacher of New Boston, Texas.

Interesting art by young artists is on view in the art gallery Agora Borealis in Shreveport. It is similar to an antique mall, with artists’ booths in a fine old service station built in 1927 in what is now a transitional neighborhood.
Purple hull peas are a favorite southern dish, and musical twins Katy Lou and Penny Lea Clark, who perform onstage under the unusual name The Purple Hulls, are serving up their own acoustical version of the homegrown dish to an increasingly hungry audience.
