East Texans Make 2015 Texas Medal of Arts Honorees

Among the 15 honorees announced this week for the 2015 Texas Medal of Arts include Northeast Texans Jamie Foxx in the film category and the Kilgore Rangerettes for dance.

The Texas Medal of Arts Awards is a biennial event celebrating Texas natives who've achieved greatness in the arts and entertainment, as well as those whose generosity has opened doors to artistic opportunity and education. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the event's mother organization, the Texas Cultural Trust -- a nonprofit dedicated to promoting and highlighting the power of the arts in children's education, the state's economy and the unique Texas culture.

Former Northeast Texas honorees include Van Cliburn of Kilgore winning a Lifetime Achievement award in 2001 and James Surls of Mabank for visual arts in 2013.

The 2015 awards event takes place February 25 at the Long Center for the Performing Arts in Austin. It includes red-carpet arrivals, a star-studded awards show with special musical performances, and a gala dinner. For more information visit www.txculturaltrust.org/TMAA or call 512.478.5289.
