Julie Seymore Receives Designation of Certified Economic Developer
Julie H. Seymore, Executive Director of the Canton Economic Development Corporation in Canton, Texas earned the designation of Certified Economic Developer (CEcD), a national recognition that denotes a mastery of skills in economic development, professional attainment and a commitment to personal and professional growth. The CEcD program exam was administered by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) on December 1-2, 2018 in Denver, CO. She joins an elite group of 1,100 active CEcD’s in the United States.
Ms. Seymore joined the Canton EDC in June, 2014 with 20 years’ experience in municipal government. During her tenure with the EDC, she has created innovative strategic planning, business recruitment, new incentive funding, and workforce training initiatives; led the charge in aggressive business recruitment, regional cooperatives, and local business expansion partnerships; provided relationship building and project development expertise to numerous business owners and prospects; and completed several property development and public infrastructure projects. The Canton Main Street Program, Canton Visitors Bureau and City of Canton Marketing Program also fall under her leadership.
The CEcD designation recognizes qualified and dedicated practitioners in the economic development field and sets the standard of excellence within the profession. Candidates must have a minimum of four years’ direct experience in the field, complete 128+ hours of in-class training related to a minimum of six disciplines, and pass a rigorous and comprehensive examination, which has three parts and spans two days.
