Beauty and the Box Continues in Tyler
Keep Tyler Beautiful recently added its two newest boxes in their Beauty and the Box program. The City of Tyler and Keep Tyler Beautiful launched this pilot program in 2016 by wrapping 10 traffic utility boxes showcasing art designed by local artists.
The artistic pieces chosen and highlighted on the new boxes were created by local artist Valeria Barnhill. These newly wrapped pieces are located at the intersection of Independence Drive and Broadway, in front of the Broadway Square Mall, and at the intersection of University Boulevard and Old Omen Drive.
"The art on these utility boxes is fun and interesting,” said Keep Tyler Beautiful board chairman, Sarah Wruck. “It adds so much to the overall appeal of our community."
Keep Tyler Beautiful aims to expand this program throughout the City of Tyler. While the first 10 boxes were concentrated in the Downtown Business, Arts and Culture District, these two new boxes are spread about Tyler.
Anyone can sponsor a utility box in Tyler. The sponsor is able to choose from a selection of approved artwork at Main Street Gallery and can place their name at the bottom of the box.
