Singer/Songwriter Contest Set

The venue that hosts the weekly Blues Jam now wants to spotlight talented singers and songwriters in any genre.

The deadline is midnight Friday, November 20, to enter the Top of the Pines Singer/Songwriter Contest, sponsored by The Liberty Bell Bar, 422 E. Main Street, Nacogdoches.

“We couldn’t believe how many people in East Texas are truly talented,” said Kati Kennedy, Liberty Bell’s owner. “There are so many who don’t perform on a regular basis, and therefore you may have never heard of them. We would like to spotlight local talent, those who already have a name as a performer and those who do not.”

Contest entry comes with some incentive. A $600 cash prize will go to the first -place winner and a $200 cash prize for the second-place singer.

The contest has four rounds and the first is video submission and application by the contestant. The video should feature the contestant singing an original song or the cover version of a known song. The online application can be completed by visiting

“Videos do not need to be elaborate or professional – a simple smartphone recording of the performance is fine,” Kennedy said.

In the second round, the general public will have the chance to vote for their favorite contestants on Facebook, narrowing the field down to the top 10. The top 10 will then perform on December 3 at The Liberty Bell. A popular vote and decisions by a panel of judges will result in six finalists. Rounds three and four will proceed in the same manner with the final round being held December 17 when the top three will perform and the prizes will be awarded.

Full contest rules are available online.
