NASA Astronaut Highlights Tyler Hispanic Awards Ceremony

The Tyler Hispanic Business Alliance (HBA) invites the entire community to its 11th Annual Hispanic Achievers & Business Leaders Awards, scheduled for Wednesday, October 10, at the Harvey Convention Center.

This year, the keynote speaker will be Jose Hernandez, NASA astronaut (Space Shuttle mission STS-128) and space engineer.

Originally a NASA engineer, Hernandez wanted to fly in space ever since he heard that the first Hispanic-American had been chosen to travel into space. Next, he earned a degree in electrical engineering and was awarded a full scholarship to the graduate program at the University of California. Then in 1987, he accepted a full-time job with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The rest is NASA history.
