Jefferson Theatre Presents The Cemetery Club

Jefferson's Opera House Theatre Players are in rehearsal for the next production of their 25th season, "The Cemetery Club.” The play is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. November 7-9  at the the Jefferson Playhouse. In celebration of the groups “Dream Season 25” a glass of champagne is served prior to each first night performance.

Written by Ivan Menchel, the play concerns Jewish widows who meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husbands graves. The women, all long-time friends, love each other but each has their own way of handling their widowhood - until a widower comes on the scene and creates a stir among the friends.  It was called "funny, sweet and moving" by the Boston Globe; "Very touching and humorous...an evening of pure pleasure by the Washington Journal.

" The Cemetery Club" opened on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in New York City May 23, 1990, but was originally presented at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington. D.C. March 30, 1990, directed by Pamela Berlin.
