At one time, Cherokee County grew 90 percent of Texas' tomatoes. Due to this once booming production of tomatoes, Jacksonville is the host of an annual Tomato Fest. Held in June on the front lawn of the Tomato Bowl Stadium, the festival celebrates Jacksonville's agricultural history and National Tomato Week. Activities at the festival include a salsa contest, an antique car show, a karaoke contest, and a street dance to name a few. If you aren't spending time in Jacksonville for the delicious tomatoes, visit Lake Jacksonville Park. Bring the entire family for a day on the lake. There are several activities to choose from, such as boating, camping, or swimming. For ATV fans, come to the ATV Mud Nationals, held at Mud Creek ATV Park. The Mud Jam portion of this event offers live entertainment from celebrity headliners and is held in May. www.jacksonvilletexas.com
