Paris Affair Offers Farm-to-Fork Experience

Paris, Texas, Main Street Program is planning for the second year a dining event pairing the chefs of downtown eateries and the local vendors who participate weekly at the Paris Farmers and Artisan Market. The Market Square Affair is a fundraiser to support downtown improvements.

Market Square Affair will take place on Saturday, September 15, and will be an evening of music, food and fun at the Paris local Farmers Market. The event is set to take place at the Market Square Pavilion which will be beautifully transformed into an intimate outdoor dining experience, with designer Ashlea Helms Mattoon planning the events décor.

“Main Street volunteers are dedicating a lot of time to plan a wonderful evening," says Cheri Bedford, Paris Main Street Coordinator.  “Last year was our first year, and it was a sellout.”

The event is limited to 100 attendees. Guests will be treated to a dinner that will include locally grown vegetables and fruits along with artisan bakery items and beverages prepared by some local Market vendors. Downtown eateries will also be featured. The menu includes appetizers, BBQ brisket and St. Louis ribs, salad, vegetables, bread and dessert, tea, water and ginger beer. BYOB beer and wine is allowed.

“We learned a lot, have made changes to the food presentation and the venue set up,” says Jill Drake, event coordinator.

Guests will be treated to the music of E-Flat Porch Band from McKinney, a folk and blues acoustic group who have been named to the Texas Commission of the Arts roster.

A “brown bag” fundraiser will be a feature again this year. Last year’s event funds went to providing a heating unit to the downtown public restroom at the splash pad, making it available during the winter months.

Paris Farmers and Artisan Market is becoming a regional hub, bringing vendors from surrounding counties such as Red River, Delta, Fannin, Grayson and Hunt.  At this time, vendors space is are busting out the seams, and the community has responded in a positive way, says Bedford.

The tickets for Market Square Affair are limited to 100 guests, and are sold at a cost of $65 per person. Ticket sales are online only.  For more information about the Paris Farmers and Artisan Market or to purchase a ticket to the event, visit the website:
