Dine on the Line in Texarkana
Here’s a geographically interesting dining experience.
The region’s city straddling two state lines has “double the pleasure”— as the old Doublemint gum commercial used to tout — and the upcoming “Dining on the Line” event is delicious evidence.
On October 7, participants have the opportunity to eat dinner right on the street that makes Texarkana famous. This third annual event features an evening of dinner and music right in the middle of State Line Avenue, where half of the diners are in Arkansas and half are in Texas.
The adult dinner for $25 ticketholders is a three-course meal from Pecan Point Gastropub and Brewery and Verona Restaurant. It includes a salad with homemade dressings, chicken and alligator sausage gumbo served over rice, and a made-from-scratch dessert. Beer and wine will be available from Pecan Point.
Kids have their own ticket price at $10 for a menu of chicken strips, mac n cheese, and a chocolate chip cookie from Johnny B's Restaurant.
“We’re very excited to be offering 100-percent downtown cuisine this year,” said Main Street Executive Director Ina McDowell. “We know Pecan Point and Verona will come up with something phenomenal, and Johnny B’s is going to make an awesome plate for kids.”
But it’s not just about dinner. The family-friendly event will also feature music, pop-up vendors, and state line fun for kids, like a dinosaur dig, bike riding, bubbles, and more. The event will have a “come and go” feel where guests can ride bikes, shop a marketplace of fall vendors, and play in the kids’ area. When they are ready, ticketholders can pick up their meal and drink and find a seat at the table.
Live music will be provided by the Dusty Rose Band and will include a Texarkana-themed song written for the event by local downtown supporter Judge Josh Morriss, III, titled the “T-Town Boogie.” The song has its own custom-choreographed line dance that will be performed by local groups wishing to participate, and prizes will be awarded.
Just before sunset guests will be asked to gather around the table for a toast to our two cities and their shared downtown at this event like no other.
Tickets are available through September 30 and can be purchased online at DOTL2017.eventbrite.com. All proceeds from the event
go toward Main Street Texarkana’s mission: the restoration and revitalization of downtown Texarkana.
The event is from 4pm-9pm.
