Energy Healing May Reduce Stress
Reiki is a stress reduction and relaxation technique that emerged in Japan in the late 1800s. Since then practitioners all over the world rely upon this energy healing to help others.
Katherine McConnell is one of them.
“From the time I was a young teenager I’ve had a desire to help relieve pain and suffering, so much a part of the human condition,” McConnell says.
In a Reiki session, McConnell has her customer lay on a massage table face up. As her hands hover a few inches away from the body, she channels positive energy and recipients often feel a powerful flow of energy that brings a near immediate sensation of relief. On particularly distressed areas of the body, she may place her hands directly on to the body for an extra boost where it is most needed.
“Thus far in my work, I am discovering the absolute joy of witnessing such beneficial results of clients being lifted out of depression; enjoying restful, restorative sleep, which before had been difficult; reducing anxiety; experiencing less pain; having better mental clarity; and a general state of well-being.”
A standard appointment lasts about one hour.
“A treatment feels like a wonderful radiance that flows in and around you,” McConnell says. “Some experience visions of form and color. Most people are surprised when a full hour has passed, and they find themselves wanting to stay in that space. It is always my goal that they leave with an optimistic outlook on their own life, a renewed sense of wellness, and that they continue to progress toward a beneficial result.”
McConnell feels strongly that research is showing that Reiki works well with Western medicine.
“Increasingly, hospitals are beginning to incorporate Reiki into their protocols and finding that the practice results in patients having better attitudes and far less anxiety, and also having much better post-op results such as faster wound healing with less pain, infection, and depression.”
She quotes Dr. Oz who said on his TV show, “The use of energy healing will be the biggest frontier in medicine over the next decade. Try Reiki. This alternative medical treatment can manipulate your energy and cure what ails you.”
