Sidekicks Now Features Two Locations
Sidekick’s Restaurant in Emory is a home-cooking, family-style restaurant that makes hungry people happy. They are known for big portions, friendly service, and for serving breakfast all day. They are also known by many as having the best chicken fried steak in the region, a title that obviously changes depending on who one talks to, but they have been given that distinction by different publications over the years including County Line Magazine in 2014. They also won honorable mention as best catfish in County Line’s 2017 Best of the Upper East Side of Texas.
The restaurant is decorated with rustic décor including daily dinner specials posted along the walls on wooden Texas stars. Often the front parking lot looks full from the road and might discourage people from stopping and enjoying the good food, but there is parking out back and there is a back room that can hold large groups, allowing the restaurant to seat about 130 people.
Sidekick’s Restaurant is located at 609 N. Texas Street (Texas State Hwy 19) in Emory, and they are open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
While the original Sidekick’s covers people’s home-cooking and diner-style needs, they have now branched out with a second location, Sidekick’s Bar & Grill, about one and a half miles away. The bar and grill opened in December 2018.
This new place also offers good food but is also an entertainment venue that features live music and dancing, pool tables and other games, and more. A long bar has big screen televisions lining the wall above it and there are more TVs throughout the game area and some eating areas. The staff says it is a fun place to come and watch sports games with friends.
They are housed in what was previously an Alco store and the place is huge with lots of seating. They offer space for special events and for groups to come and dine together. The Sidekick’s stage presents a variety of local talent different nights of the week. People find live music and a chance to use their large dance floor basically every Friday and Saturday night. Some Friday nights also offer karaoke sessions.
Chicken fried steak is not on the menu here, but people can order a nice ribeye or New York strip steak as well as burgers, salads, sandwiches, and a large variety of appetizers. The loaded fries are good as well as the Chicken Salad Supreme which included pineapple and cashews and perfectly cooked, tender and juicy grilled chicken. The staff is fast and attentive, the soft drinks come in a really large glass, and the draft beer is ice cold.
There is a boutique off the front lobby offering country and rustic decor, some clothing, jewelry, and more.
Sidekick’s Bar and Grill is located at 909 E. Lennon Dr. (U.S. Hwy 69) and they are open seven days a week: Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to midnight, and Saturday 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
