Winter’s Gift

Published:

In a rare divergence of climate

Snow like a white cotton blanket

Covered the brown Texas turf

Small footprints etched in the snow

The bird feeder outside my window

A winter oasis in a snowy desert

Birds in chaos arguing around it

A feeble snowman grinning in the yard

The sun emerging in the late afternoon

The flaccid features of the snowman fading

Gradually melting into a watery grave.
