Get ready for a rootin'-tootin', rip-roarin' good time during the Cherokee Civic Theatre's final production of the 2017-18 season, Blazing Guns at Roaring Gulch (or The Perfumed Badge).

Tickets are on sale now for the classic old-West melodrama which finds Detective Harry Heartstone on the trail of the dastardly villain, Snipe Vermin. Throw in a lady sheriff, an evil hotel owner, a stranded theater company and a dim-witted sidekick, and let the hijinks begin.

“This is a throw-back to the zany live theatre of yesteryear,” producer Lisa Pierce said. “The audience will get lots of opportunities to participate by cheering our heroes and booing our villains. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be on the edges of your seats — it's not one to miss!”

Cast members include John Earle as Harry Heartstone; Corey Flomnsbee as Snipe Vermin; Ryan Glaze as Barney; Jordan Langford as Bill Filbert; John Ervin as Col. Crabtree; Amy McCalister as Sheriff Willie Lovelace; Josie Fox as the Widow Black; Frances Green as Martha Muldoon; and Joyce Melton and Emily Pierce as Flora and Dora.

“We've got a great cast and crew who've really been working hard, while having a great time putting this show together,” director Serena Bemis said.

Bemis and Pierce said while the play is family-friendly in content, costumes and set pieces are as authentic as possible.

“We do have saloon girls who are dressed accordingly — not vulgar or anything, but we do want parents to be aware,” Pierce said.

Blazing Guns at Roaring Gulch hits the CCT stage Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6, and Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12. Curtain opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the historic Cherokee Civic Theatre, 157 West Fifth Street, just off the square in downtown Rusk.

Advance tickets for all shows are $10 for students and $13 for adults. At-the-door tickets are $15 each. Call the CCT box office, 903-683-2131, or visit the theatre's website, www.cherokeetheatre.net, to reserve tickets.
