A Gatlin by Another Name to Perform at Mineola Fundraiser
LaDonna Gatlin performs Saturday, August 18, in Mineola.
The baby sister of the Gatlin Brothers, LaDonna Gatlin, chose to "sing a different song" from her famous brothers and will bring her inspirational story to Mineola on Saturday, August 18.
Gatlin will present "The Song in You" during a fundraising luncheon at the Mineola Civic Center. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and the event goes through 2 p.m.
Admission is $35 and can be paid by mailing checks to the Mineola Historical Museum, c/o Sharon Chamblee, 114 North Pacific Street, Mineola, Texas 75773. Credit card charges can be made by calling Mineola City Hall at (903) 569-6183.
Gatlin was reared onstage performing with the legendary singing group that was her brothers. But in the mid-1970s, she decided to follow her heart and took a different path.
She has written and recorded her own original songs and sung on both Grammy Award-winning and Dove Award-winning records. She is author of The Song in You: Finding Your Voice, Redefining Your Life, and is a contributing writer for the best-selling book series Chicken Soup for the Soul.
The luncheon will be catered by the civic center and tickets must be purchased by Monday, August 6. Seating is limited. Tickets for chances to win gift baskets created by museum board members can be purchased for $2. The basket themes will include be a spa package, a gardening basket and dog kennel and grooming basket and more.
The Mineola Historical Museum is located at 114 North Pacific Street in what was the town's former post office. The museum features approximately 35 exhibits and is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment.
