Grand Opening for the Texan Theater Venue Features Darryl Worley

The public is invited to attend the free Grand Opening of The Texan theater venue in historic downtown Athens on Tuesday, July 3. This show is the second concert of three in the 2nd Annual Summer Concert Series. Nationally-known country music recording artist Darryl Worley — singer of the hit patriotic song Have You Forgotten? — will perform. The opening act is The Tyler Dudley Band from Tyler.

“The time has finally come to celebrate the Grand Opening of The Texan!” says Adrianna Hinds, community services coordinator for the City of Athens. “Please join us for this free, family-friendly event to kick off your Independence Day holiday and enjoy a nationally recognized country music artist in downtown Athens.”

The Texan was first established as a movie theater in 1948. Its popularity and reputation spans the ages. With the exciting re-establishment of The Texan in the heart of downtown Athens, not only will the current generation and generations to come have a chance to bring The Texan back to its glory through the live music experience, but The Texan will be the catalyst for the revitalization of downtown Athens as a whole.

The event is outdoors and free to the public. Bring your own lawn chairs, seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Attendees can begin setting up chairs in the parking lot behind The Texan at 6:30 p.m. Food trucks and vendors will be on site, and the event is BYOB. Beer and wine can conveniently be purchased across the street at Come and Take It.

The Texan is located downtown at 209 East Tyler Street. For questions, contact City Hall at 903.675.5131 or texaninfo@athenstx.gov. For additional event information, visit www.thetexanathens.com.
