Newgate Mission presents “An Evening with Ron Hall” at 6:30 p.m. April 4 at LeTourneau University’s Belcher Center, featuring the Dallas author of the New York Times platinum best-selling book and hit movie, Same Kind of Different as Me. The book and movie were based on Ron Hall’s own true life story.

In addition to being on the best-seller list for over three-and-a-half years and selling over a million copies, Hall’s book of hope and inspiration was made into a popular motion picture of the same name starring Greg Kinnear, Renée Zellweger, and Djimon Hounsou (2017).

Same Kind of Different as Me tells how a homeless man and ex-convict, Denver Moore, forever changes the lives of Hall (then a successful international art dealer) and his wife, Deborah, when he threatened their lives while they were volunteering at a Fort Worth shelter in 1998.

Hall recently published a sequel, Workin’ Our Way Home, and is currently working on a screenplay of the same name that follows Hall and Moore’s relationship following the death of Hall’s wife.

“We would love to see as many of Newgate Mission’s friends and supporters, as well as our East Texas Community join us for this very special fundraiser,” said Hollie Bruce, Newgate Mission Executive Director. “It’s the kind of evening that will touch your heart and help all of us better understand the human cost of poverty and cultural differences in today’s society.”

Following the evening’s program, Ron Hall will be available to sign copies of his books.

All proceeds from the event directly benefit Newgate Mission in Longview and the vital services it provides to the East Texas community. For tickets, call (903)233-3080 or visit
