An exhibit by East Texas artist Teresa Holland Wall at 211 Gallery in Athens commemorates Mental Health Awareness Month in May. Walking on Eggshells and involves sculptural and photographic media.
Wall created delicate sculptures from eggshells for her "Fragmented" series to show the fragile and overwhelming emotions that go with many mental health issues — from the perspectives of both sufferers and caregivers. She then photographed each sculpture for the exhibit.
The exhibit recognizes that everyone knows at least one person with one or more common mental issues — from dementia and depression to post traumatic stress disorder and schizophrenia.
"Most of us know (or are) someone suffering from one or more of these issues," a flyer for the exhibit says. "Help is available."
211 Gallery is located at 211 North Palestine Street in Athens. They are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
