Brian Kelly — performing under the name Oceanography — makes his way from Oakland, California, to perform April 23 at The Forge Bar & Grill in Ben Wheeler.

With yelping vocals over layers of angular guitar lines and solid drum beats, his songs recall some of the most acclaimed bands, like The Shins, British Sea Power, Tom Petty, and War-era U2. As a claustrophobic melancholy looms just beneath the orderly exterior of the songs and their narrators, one could view them as a collection of Raymond Carver stories, but with a beat you can dance to.
